Looking for a stone that helps heal emotional wounds whilst keeping you grounded? Rhodonite, with its rose-pink colour veined with black manganese oxide, has been called the "Stone of Compassion" for its gentle, heart-centred energy.

What is Rhodonite?

Rhodonite is a manganese silicate mineral displaying shades from pale pink to deep rose, typically marked with black dendritic patterns that create striking contrast. Found in Russia, Australia, Sweden, and the United States, it rates 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. The name comes from the Greek "rhodon," meaning rose, perfectly describing its signature colour. Russian tsars particularly prized rhodonite, using massive pieces to create ornamental objects, and it became Russia's national stone. The Ural Mountains produce some of the world's finest specimens.

A Stone Named by Nature

Russian nobility in the 1790s discovered vast deposits of rhodonite in the Ural Mountains and quickly claimed it as a symbol of imperial wealth. Artisans carved rhodonite into elaborate eggs, boxes, and even large decorative pieces for palaces. During the Art Deco period, jewellers appreciated its bold pink-and-black contrast for statement pieces. Indigenous Australian cultures used rhodonite in ceremonies, believing it strengthened community bonds and promoted forgiveness between conflicting parties.

Rhodonite's Qualities

Connected to the heart chakra, rhodonite is traditionally associated with emotional healing and forgiveness. People appreciate it for:

  • Healing emotional wounds and past trauma
  • Encouraging forgiveness and letting go
  • Building self-worth and confidence
  • Supporting compassionate communication
  • Balancing emotions during difficult times

Its nurturing yet grounding energy appeals to those working through heartache or seeking to replace resentment with understanding and grace.
