Caring For Your Jewellery

At Soul & Stone we pride ourselves on quality and attention to detail. Each bespoke piece is designed and crafted in-house.

Designed in Newcastle Australia, our pieces are made using sterling silver, 14k gold vermeil or 14k gold filled. All of our pieces are nickel-free.

To ensure your creation lasts as long as possible we recommend you follow these care guidelines:

Moisture

To keep your jewellery looking its best, avoid exposure to moisture whenever possible.

Moisture, whether from water, sweat, or humidity, can cause tarnishing over time and affect the finish of your pieces. To maintain their shine and lustre, always remove your jewellery before swimming, showering, exercising, or engaging in any activities that may expose it to moisture.

If your jewellery does become tarnished, gently clean it with a soft cloth or use a jewellery cleaner specifically designed for your piece's material to restore its shine.

Storage

It is best to keep your pieces in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. All Soul & Stone pieces come in our signature pouch, which is a perfect way to store your jewellery.

Sterling Silver

Crafted from 925 sterling silver, our jewellery combines beauty with durability. This lightweight alloy blends 92.5% pure silver with strengthening metals, ensuring your pieces last.

Everyday items like perfume, lotions, hairspray, and even some facial cleansers can contribute to tarnishing on your sterling silver jewellery. The chemicals in these products can break down the silver's surface and interact with sulphur in the air, leading to a discoloured appearance.

To minimize the risk of tarnishing, it's best to put on your sterling silver jewellery after applying your beauty products and letting them dry completely. You can also wipe down your jewellery with a soft cloth after wearing it to remove any lingering residue.

14k Gold Filled

Unlike gold plating, which offers a thin layer susceptible to wear and eventual flaking, 14k gold-filled jewellery provides a superior alternative. This method utilizes a significantly thicker layer of 14k gold, typically comprising 5% of the piece's weight. This translates to 100 times more gold than found in gold-plated options. The gold is pressure-bonded to a core of sterling silver, ensuring exceptional durability without compromising aesthetics.

The benefits extend beyond longevity. The substantial gold layer minimizes the risk of tarnishing, keeping your jewellery radiant for years to come. Additionally, 14k gold-filled jewellery is hypoallergenic, making it ideal for individuals with sensitive skin who might experience irritation from exposed base metals in gold-plated pieces.

Maintaining the brilliance of your 14k gold-filled jewellery is simple. An occasional buffing with a soft, dry cloth restores its lustre, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of genuine 14k gold at a more accessible price point.

Gold Vermeil

Our gold vermeil jewellery is made from 925 sterling silver, coated with a thick layer of 18k gold for added durability and a refined finish.

While more resistant than standard gold plating, the gold layer can still be affected by exposure to products like perfumes, lotions, hairsprays, and facial cleansers.

To minimize tarnishing, it's best to apply beauty products before wearing your jewellery and allow them to dry fully. After wearing, you can also wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth to remove any residue.
